National Awareness Campaign in Support of the Lebanese Pharmaceutical Industry!

Under the high patronage of the Lebanese Prime Minister H.E Mr. Saad Hariri, the Syndicate of Pharmaceutical Industries in Lebanon (SPIL) has launched the National Awareness Campaign in Support of the Lebanese Pharmaceutical Industry in partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and the Lebanese Ministry of Industry (MOI).


The launching ceremony that was in presence of H.E Mr. Ghassan Hasbany, the Lebanese MOPH and H.E Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, the Lebanese MOI and in presence of a large audience from the political and healthcare community took place at the Grand Serail on February 17, 2017.


H.E Mr. Ghassan Hasbany emphasized on the importance of the Lebanese pharmaceutical industry and its positive impact on the healthcare and economic sector. He has also declared that the MOPH has declared a series of reforms to stress on the high quality of the local pharmaceutical industries and has announced during the ceremony the signature of a decree to allow pharmacists to exchange the prescription of a foreign generic product in favor of a local generic product.


Also, H.E Dr. Hussain Hajj Hassan, described the Lebanese pharmaceutical industry as an innovative and a high tech industry that has all the needed potential to compete with similar industries in highly developed countries.


Dr. Carol Abi Karam, President of SPIL, had stressed on a call to action to support the Lebanese pharmaceutical industry especially that it currently comprises 11 manufacturing facilities  and produces more than 650 pharmaceutical products and employs more than 1800 Lebanese industrial pharmacy professionals.


SPIL currently gathers 11 companies including BPI and works on safeguarding this local industry and enhancing its operations in Lebanon and abroad.
